Spectrum Party

Office party games

A free office party game that works in the room and on Zoom

Office party games tend to fail in one of two ways: trivia that a few people dominate, or icebreakers that put someone on the spot. In Spectrum Party, one player gets a card like Fine to microwave at work ↔ Never microwave at work, gives a single clue, and their team guesses where it lands. Everyone has an opinion and nobody needs to know the answer.

Every player uses their own phone or laptop, so it works the same at the party, in a hybrid meeting or on a fully remote call.

How to run it at work

  1. 1. Create a room

One person presses “Start an office game” and gets a 4-letter code. Work-safe packs are already picked.

  2. 2. Share the code

Put it on the screen, in the meeting chat or on Slack. Coworkers join from their own phone or laptop.

  3. 3. Split into two teams

Mix departments so each team has people who know each other well and people who don’t.

  4. 4. Give a clue

The psychic sees a card and a hidden target on the dial, and says one clue that points at it.

  5. 5. Turn the dial and score

The team argues and locks in a guess, the other team calls left or right, and the score updates for everyone.

Why it works with coworkers

There are no trivia questions, so new hires and long-timers play on equal terms. Each round puts a different person in the spotlight for a few seconds, and the clues show how people think without anybody having to perform or share something personal.

The Classic, Food & Drink and Holiday Party packs are safe for any workplace. Leave Hot Takes for teams that already know each other.

Holiday and end-of-year parties

The Holiday Party pack has an office section with cards like Good Secret Santa gift ↔ Bad Secret Santa gift and Boring office party ↔ Legendary office party. For a full holiday game, see the Christmas party game page with the cards sorted by theme.

Tips for remote and hybrid teams

  • Use Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Slack huddles. No screen sharing is needed.
  • Ask the psychic to mute after giving the clue, so their reactions don’t give the target away.
  • Keep cameras on — watching the other team argue is half the fun.
  • For a ten-minute icebreaker at the start of a meeting, play to 5 points.
  • For groups over 12, rotate teams between games so everyone gets a turn as psychic.
