Play a Wavelength-style game online, free
Spectrum Party is a free, browser-based take on the spectrum-guessing game made famous by Wavelength. One player sees a secret target on a dial between two opposites, gives a single clue, and their team turns the dial to find it.
Start a room, send the 4-letter code to your friends, and everyone plays on their own phone or laptop. The dial, turns and scoring sync live.
How to play Wavelength-style online
1. Create a room
Pick a nickname and press “Start a free game”. You get a 4-letter room code.
2. Invite your friends
Share the code or link. Players join from any browser and pick Team Coral or Team Teal.
3. Give a clue
The psychic sees a card like Cold ↔ Hot and a hidden target, then gives one clue.
4. Turn the dial
Their team drags the dial together and locks it. The other team calls left or right.
5. Score and swap
Up to 4 points for the team, 1 for a correct left/right call. First to 10 wins.
Clue: “Sauna” — close enough for 4 points.
How is it different from the Wavelength board game?
The idea and the team scoring are the same: a 2-3-4-3-2 target, left/right calls for the other team, catch-up turns and sudden death. What changes is the table. Instead of one physical dial, every player has the dial on their own screen, the target is hidden automatically and the score is kept for you.
The cards are our own. Spectrum Party ships with more than 400 original spectrums in packs like Classic, Food & Drink, Pop Culture, Kids and Hot Takes, so there is no overlap with the cards in the box.
Spectrum Party is an independent game and is not affiliated with CMYK Games. If you want the original, the Wavelength board game is published by CMYK Games.
What you need to play
- At least four players: two teams of two. Six to twelve is the sweet spot.
- One device per player — a phone is enough. No app or account.
- A way to talk: the same room, a video call, or a voice chat on Discord.
- About 20–30 minutes for a game to 10 points, or 10 minutes to 5.
Why play in the browser?
Remote friends can join from anywhere, nobody has to share their screen, and there is nothing to set up or clean away. It also settles the classic argument at the table: the reveal is exact, so there’s no debate about whether the dial was “basically” in the 4.
Because it runs in any modern browser, it works on iPhone, Android, laptops and tablets in the same game.
